About the speaker

Usha Ramanathan is an independent law researcher. She writes, speaks and teaches on the jurisprudence of law, poverty and rights. Her research interests include environmental law and policy, judicial process, human rights, child rights, gender, labour law, marginal communities and the law, and torts. She has devoted her attention to a number of specific issues such as the Bhopal gas disaster, the Narmada valley dams, slum eviction in Delhi and corporate accountability. Her interest has been lately kindled by the proposed UID, and its implications for freedom and rights.
