BMIC: Sorabjee to plead for State
Thursday May 5 2005 13:36 IST

BANGALORE: The State Government has decided to engage former Solicitor General of India and leading advocate Soli Sorabjee to represent it in the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court verdict on the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project (BMICP).

According to sources, Chief Minister Dharam Singh, on Wednesday, spoke to Sorabji over phone and requested him to come to the State’s rescue to overcome the ‘‘legal crisis,’’ created due to Tuesday’s High Court verdict against the government in the BMICP case.

Chief Secretary K.K. Misra, who has left for New Delhi is expected to meet Sorabjee and explain to him about the HC verdict on Thursday.

Misra, along with Advocate General B.T. Parthasarathy and Law secretary D’souza Robinson left for New Delhi on Wednesday. The State Government is likely to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court in the next couple of days.

Chief Minister Dharam Singh, Law minister H.K. Patil, and Parthasarthy held a meeting with legal experts on preparing grounds for challenging the High Court order.

Dushyant Dave, an advocate who represented Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises in the High Court will continue to represent the company in the Supreme Court also.
