BANGALORE: The State Government will complete the work of converting the 140 km Bangalore-Mysore State Highway into four lanes by October, said the Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, after reviewing the works taken up by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) in Mandya district. The roadworks between Bangalore and Srirangapatna will be completed by the end of July. Later, the Public Works Department will focus on roadworks between Mysore and Srirangapatna. The roadworks have slowed down on account of delay in land acquisition. The work involved the construction or strengthening of bridges. The Governor of Maharashtra, S.M. Krishna, laid the foundation stone for the four-laning project at Maddur on December 15, 2003, when he was the Chief Minister. The Government decided to widen the road considering the increase in the number of vehicles from 8,000 a day in 1995-96 to 40,0000 a day at present. Asked about allegations by the Kannada film star and Congress MP for Mandya, Ambarish, against him on the slow progress of the work, Mr. Revanna said that it is going on.
Power supply
The Minister said KPTCL will restore power supply to the Pandavapura Cooperative Sugar Factory. Power supply was disconnected for non-payment of a bill of Rs. 23 lakhs. The Minister for Health and Family Welfare, N. Cheluvaraya Swamy, who is in charge of Mandya district, said Mr. Revanna has directed KPTCL to set up two power stations each at Mandya, Krishnarajapet, Nelamangala, Maddur, Malavalli and Srirangapatna. Work on the stations will be completed in 15 months. The MLAs of Mandya district attended the review meeting.
