If you agree with the Statement of Concern developed collectively by various groups and individuals in Bangalore, and wish to extend your support, kindly send your name and contact details to esg@esgindia.org and esgindia@gmail.com to be included in a representation being made to the Chief Minister of Karnataka. *Your endorsements must be sent by 30 August 2007 to be included in the representation.* Below are some of the responses and comments we have received from individuals on the Hebbal Lake issue: ----------------------------- This morning I happened to read about ESG, where u have opposed the Private Public participation introduced in some lakes. I was very happy to read that atleast there is a body which is genuinely interested in saving a lake. I wish to draw your attention to the condition of the Kaggadasapura lake which is filled with weeds. this lake is behind Bagmane tech park, where companies like Motorola, HP, Texas Instruments, IFlex, Samsung, Sasken, etc have their offices. This beautiful lake has been neglected by the authorities even after repeated complaints and pleas. I has personally visited the Lake Development Authority to inform and enquire about the plan for this lake, but they did not show any interest in it. There are encroachments happeneing on a daily basis and the lake will surely die if action is not taken now. This is the only source of ground water recharge to this area, and if the slit increases any more there are high chances of flooding in the entire C.V Raman Nagar area. Even if the companies located in the Bagmane tech park work towards the 'Corporate Social Responsibility", I am sure this lake can be saved! I request your help and advise on the further course of action. Thanks and best regards Priya Naik -----------------------------
I strongly
suggest to file a public interest litigation & Obtain stay order
from the Court. Apart from this organise & stage demonstration at

public debate with the political & bureaucrats with Media coverage. B S Gopala

I strongly condemn the handing over the Hebbal and other lakes to private parties. I agree with you. Please include my name in your petition to the governement and other authorities. Sincerely, S.Gopal ----------------------------- Yes, I agree that tanks and lakes are community property and cannot be traded away at all. such vested interests of Private Rich cannot be named as PPP,,,,!!!!
Regards, Shilpa Narayanan Research Associate ----------------------------- I support this cause 100%. As a young environmentalist I am appalled at the way Bangalore officials have totally sold themselves (but put our city's greenery as their personal property) to commercialization. The people's interest in this country have taken a backseat as our opinions and views are being decided by a bunch of hooligans who have no environmental ethics. I urge you to please stop this city's greenery from becoming personal property of large enterprises who just look at all this lakes/parks as another investment to their booming businesses. Let us not allow these people to make US pay for their greed!! I give my signature willingly. Regards, -----------------------------

include my name as a supporter to prevent commercialization of natural
water bodies of Bangalore. I attach my name and contact details ---------------- I am a
Bangalorean, born & brought up here predominantly, as well as employed
here (in the much hyped 'IT sector'). Each day, we witness a new example
of the deterioration of Bangalore's once salubrious environment. Roadside
trees are brought down for 'road widening to ease traffic' or 'parking
spots'. Tanks and lakes, as well as agricultural land along Bangalore's
periphery are used for housing or commercial purposes - typically monstrous
multi storeyed buildings approachable only by narrow pot holed roads.
Air and noise pollution are on the increase, with the rapid rise in
number of vehicles. And old quaries are being used as landfill sites,
with plastic strewn all over, or worse, being burnt Knowing
that I too am partly responsible for the current state of affairs, I
try in every small way to do less damage. Our house has been equipped
with solar water heating, and we are now gearing up for rain water harvesting.
We do not keep electrical appliances on standby - both since they consume
power unnecessarily, as well as save them from the notorious surges
in our power supply. We car pool or bus long Some years ago, we were heartened when Bangalore's parks went through a remarkable face lift - giving much needed space for our children to play and the youth to jog and senior citizens space to walk. Good buses were introduced on long distance routes, and bus shelters were constructed. We thought that was the turn around, and Bangalore was no longer in decline. That appears to be said too early, when we see the current state of affairs. I'd like to give our children the clean air, space and safety that I had in my beloved Bangalore during my childhood. Let us do something towards that. - Kavitha Kadambi
