People's Manifesto for Bangalore Civic elections
Bangalore People's Forum, a network of progressive voluntary organisations of which ESG is a part, has come out with a Peoples Manifesto for the upcoming local govt elections based on inputs from diverse sectors and after many consultations. Read more.
Nuclear Liability Bill
The Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill, 2010 (download bill) protects nuclear industry from the costs of providing real compensation following a nuclear disaster. In a representation to the PM, ESG argues that this could be part of an overarching strategy to whittle down India's absolute liability regime, a move apparently sponsored by US EPA grants. Preserving India's Biodiversity
Mr. Jairam Ramesh has confirmed that the 190 plants listed in MoEF's Notification of October, 2009 "would be exempt from purview of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, provided they are traded as commodities." Read more.
